The Ten Commandments
continued

The following are just a few of the many places in scripture where we are told how it is absolutely necessary that we keep the commandments. The salvation of our souls depends on it!

In the gospel of Matthew 19:16, 17 a rich man asks Jesus what he must do to enter into heaven. Our Lord tells him that he must keep the commandments.

That question might as well of come from anyone of us. The answer would be the same. However, one can not keep or follow what one does not know.

In the gospel of John 14:15 Jesus tells us “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” So the next time we feel comfortable with ourselves for saying that we love Jesus we can check ourselves with His own words and see if we really do love Him.

In Joshua 1:7 God tells Joshua to be firm and steadfast and to observe the entire law which was given to them through Moses. “Do not swerve from it to the right or to the left…keep it on your lips. Meditate on it day and night.”

Psalm 1:1-2 Blessed are those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked… Rather, the law of the Lord is their joy; God’s law they meditate on day and night.

1 John 2:4 He who says, “I know Him” (Jesus) but disobeys His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

John 15:10,14 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love…
You are my friends if you do what I command you.

Matthew 5:19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has over 100 pages written on the Ten Commandments. Very important reading and pondering material.

The learning and the loving never stops!
