OUR LADY OF LOURDES
Here you will
find some general information on the apparition of Our Lady of
Lourdes and the recently declared JUBILEE YEAR which began December
8th, 2007 which is the feast of the Immaculate
Conception.
The Dogma of the Immaculate
Conception declared by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
December 8,
1854, Pope Pius IX pronounced the solemn declaration that "the Most
Blessed Virgin Mary, from the first moment of her conception, by
special grace and privilege of God and in view of the merits of
Jesus Christ, was preserved immune from all stain of original sin."
In 1858 the
Blessed Mother appeared to a young girl, Bernadette Soubirous in
Lourdes France. Bernadette was only 14 years old at the time. The
Blessed Mother appeared 18 times and during one of these apparitions
she told Bernadette that she was the “Immaculate Conception.”
2008 will be 150 years since that miraculous event.
